Sentle

Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 June 2026

This policy explains what information Sentle (the “Game,” at sentle.app) handles when you play, and why. Sentle is operated by Sentle (“we,” “us”). We have tried to keep both the Game and this policy simple and privacy-respecting.

The short version:

1. No account, no personal details

You can play Sentle without signing in or providing any information about yourself. We do not ask for, and do not store, your name, email address, phone number, or similar identifying details.

2. A random, anonymous ID

So that your puzzle progress and streak can follow you between visits, the Game creates a random identifier (a UUID) the first time you play and stores it in your browser. This ID is generated on your device, is not derived from anything about you, and is not connected to your identity. It simply lets us store “this anonymous player solved puzzle #42” without knowing who you are.

You can view this identifier at any time as your recovery code, under “Back up & restore” in the Archive. Saving it lets you bring your progress back if you clear your browser or move to a new device. Because the code is the only key to that progress, anyone you share it with can load the same archive — so treat it like a password. It still reveals nothing about who you are.

3. What’s stored on your device

The Game saves a small amount of data in your browser’s local storage, including:

This stays on your device. Clearing your browser’s site data for sentle.app erases it (and will reset your local progress and streak) — though your gameplay records remain in our database, and you can reconnect to them with your recovery code (see section 2).

4. What’s stored on our servers

To sync your progress across sessions and to understand how puzzles are performing in aggregate, we store gameplay records in our database (hosted by Supabase). These records are linked to your random anonymous ID and include things like which puzzles were started and solved, when, and your answers to optional bonus questions. They do not contain personal information about you.

5. Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand overall traffic — for example, how many people visit, which pages they view, the referring site, and an approximate country. This analytics is cookie-free and aggregate; it does not build a profile of you or track you across other websites.

6. Service providers

We rely on a few third-party services to run the Game. In the ordinary course of serving the page to your browser, these providers may process technical data such as your IP address and browser type:

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it with anyone for advertising.

7. Cookies

Sentle does not use tracking cookies. The Game uses your browser’s local storage (described in section 3) to remember your progress, which is not shared with third parties.

8. Where your data is processed

Our service providers operate globally, so the limited data involved in running the Game may be processed on servers outside Australia. By using the Game you understand that this transfer is necessary to provide the service.

9. Children

Sentle is a general-audience word game and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

10. Keeping and deleting your data

We keep anonymous progress records for as long as they’re useful for running streaks and improving the Game. You can remove your local data at any time by clearing site data for sentle.app in your browser. If you’d like the progress records associated with your anonymous ID deleted from our database, contact us (see below) and we’ll help — you may need to share your anonymous ID so we can find the right records.

11. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the limited data we hold, including access controls on our database. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but because Sentle holds no personal information about you, the impact of any issue is minimal.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change how the Game handles data, we’ll update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.
